Task/Technology Fit and the Effectiveness of Group Support Systems: Evidence in the Context of Tasks Requiring Domain Specific Knowledge

چکیده
Research on the effectiveness of group support systems (GSS) technology has begun to explore the “task/technology” fit hypothesis, which suggests an interaction between task type and communication mode. Some limited research employing generic tasks and ad hoc groups has found that GSS-mediated groups perform about the same as their face-to-face counterparts on creative tasks but significantly worse on intellective tasks. This research extends prior work by investigating the task/technology fit hypothesis using groups with a shared history and business-oriented idea generation and problem-solving tasks. Consistent with the predictions of task technology fit theory, the results revealed a significant disordinal interaction—subjects performed significantly better when communicating face-to-face for the problem-solving task and when communicating via the GSS for the idea generation task. Echoing the findings of much prior research, subjects tended to prefer face-toface communication over GSS-mediated communication.

The Governance of National Community Health Worker Programmes in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: An Empirically Based Framework of Governance Principles, Purposes and Tasks
Background National community health worker (CHW) programmes are increasingly regarded as an integral component of primary healthcare (PHC) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). At the interface of the formal health system and communities, CHW programmes evolve in context specific ways, with unique cadres and a variety of vertical and horizontal relationships. These programmes need...

of task complexity and their relationship to relevant dimensions of GSS technology. Propositions to guide further research are developed from the theory. Abstract The characteristics of a group's task have been shown to account for more than half the variation in group interaction. In the context of group support systems (GSS), the importance of task has been underscored by the recommendation t...

This study compared the effects of two types of form-focused tasks on proceduralization and transfer of linguistics knowledge in case of English modals. All participants of the study attended pretests, posttests and delayed posttests. The procedural comprehension and production knowledge were measured through the groups’ performance on a timed dual task test that resembled the context of practi...
متن کاملThe Relative Effectiveness of Input and Output-oriented Tasks with Different Involvement Loads on the Receptive and Productive Vocabulary Knowledge of Iranian EFL Learners
Framed in a cognitive approach to task-supported L2 vocabulary learning, the present study used a pedagogical approach to investigate the relative effectiveness of tasks with different involvement loads on the vocabulary knowledge of Iranian EFL learners. The goal was to investigate the way that the construct of involvement load is related to the Input Hypothesis (Krashen, 1985) and the Output ...
متن کاملTowards a Specific Theory of Task−Technology Fit for Mobile Information Systems
Mobile information systems hold great potential to support organizational processes. This paper addresses how to realize that potential, the issues involved, the challenges to overcome, and accordingly, the effective strategy to deploy. Based on Goodhue and Thompson’s (1995) general theory of task−technology fit and on Zigurs and Buckland’s (1998) specific theory for task−technology fit for gro...
